This week Julian trades the beaten path for horse trails and trees. Come along for his Southern Illinois adventure in Shawnee National Forest.

From historic hotels to cabins and campgrounds, Julian has overnighted at some great places in Illinois. This week he highlights a few.

Who knew that there was so much military history, right in our backyards? But even more interesting, who knew that Illinois was once the home landing spot for river pirates!

It's the most treacherous stretch of the Mississippi River -- the "Devil's Backbone" in Grand Tower. We'll cruise down Rattlesnake Ferry Road on the edge of the Shawnee National Forest to learn the mystery behind "Little Egypt."
