SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Rock Valley College in Rockford will build a $48.7 million arts instructional center.
Officials said Monday the 113,000-square-foot building will house classrooms, laboratories and an auditorium.
It will be home to the music, visual arts and drama programs at the school, which is experiencing high enrollment growth.
Currently, the arts programs are housed in buildings throughout the campus — even in a 100-year-old converted barn.
More than half of the funding -- $26.7 million -- is from the capital construction program state lawmakers and Gov. Pat Quinn created this year.
Quinn contends the Illinois Jobs Now! program will create and retain 439,000 jobs during the next six years.
