ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) — After a 40-day delay caused by his escape from custody, 39-year-old Robert Maday has finally been sentenced for a string of 2008 bank robberies in Buffalo Grove, Huntley and Lake Zurich.
Two months ago, attorneys negotiated a sentence of 13 years for Maday in exchange for his guilty plea to the bank robberies.
Maday's sentencing was scheduled for Sept. 17. But on that day he overpowered two guards and led suburban and federal authorities on a 26-hour pursuit that included carjackings, another bank robbery and a high-speed chase that ended in a crash and his capture.
Cook County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Fecarotta imposed the 13-year sentence Tuesday and also ordered Maday held without bond on carjacking charges.
The former Elk Grove Village resident has spent most of the past 22 years in prison.
