CHICAGO -
The University of Illinois will play a crucial role in helping the U.S. military fight battles.
A new research center will be built at the university, which will develop technology for computer networks used on battlefields and other tough environments. Computer scientists from across the state, the University of California- Santa Barbara, and IBM will work at the Information Network Academic Research Center
The Army will help finance the center by paying roughly $17 million.
The center is part of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory's Network Science Collaborative Technology Alliance. Scientists from around the country work in the alliance on problems raised by using computer networks under tough conditions.
