CHICAGO - Four people suspected of kidnapping a man on Thursday afternoon are in custody early this morning after several police agencies were involved in a pursuit along the Eisenhower Expressway that ended in DuPage County.

A man in a black pick-up truck was apprehended this morning in Bloomingdale by DuPage County Sheriff's police after FBI officials and Chicago police pursued the man.

The kidnapping occurred at 12:30 p.m. Thursday on the 3700 block of South Union Avenue in the Bridgeport neighborhood, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. A source said the victim was a man in his 30s who was being evaluated at an area hospital.

Alfaro said FBI officials initiated the pursuit after they spotted the vehicle and were assisted by Chicago police after the vehicle was spotted at about 1:50 a.m. Chicago police involvement ended at about 2 a.m. near the west-bound I-290 at Harlem Avenue.

Officials said the pursuit began on the 2100 block of South Ruble St., in the East Pilsen neighborhood. Three of the four suspects were arrested at that location with the fourth person fleeing in the pick-up truck, police said.

An undercover FBI officer saw the vehicle near I-290 and Harlem Avenue and notified State Police officials, a state police spokesman said.

Illinois State Police officials said they were never involved in the pursuit but were notified by DuPage County Sheriff's officers that they had spotted the vehicle going west bound on Lake Street and Glen Ellyn Streets in Bloomingdale.

DuPage County Sheriff's police pursued the truck into the Spring Brook shopping center in Bloomingdale where the driver was taken into custody, officials said. There were no reports of any injuries and officials said the man surrendered to DuPage officers without incident.

Citing preliminary information, Chicago police said in a statement that an unrelated squad car accident occurred on the 3800 block of West Congress Parkway near the expressway at about 2 a.m. as the pursuit was underway. The car struck a guard rail and three officers were being treated at Stroger Hospital for minor injuries, police said.
