SKOKIE, Ill.—
Toxicology reports released today show New Trier High School teen Erin Hughes had marijuana in her system, but no other illegal substances or alcohol at the time of a hit-and-run that seriously injured another student.More drug testing has been ordered.
A judge has also released Hughes from home monitoring. However, conditions of the bond remain the same.
She can not drive and can not leave the area without permission. The 18-year-old senior was released yesterday from Cook County jail after an anonymous donor posted 10 percent of her $500,000 bond.
Hughes also has a new attorney. Jack Levin has been replaced with Chicago criminal defense attorney Barry Spector.
Hughes is not the only one in her family to encounter legal trouble. Last November, Hughes' mother, 50 year old Grace Ruopp pleaded guilty to unlawful posession of cannabis and was fined $400. She was also cited and fined for serving alcohol to underage youths at a party last July. Hughes's father, a doctor who is divorced from Ruopp, was was arrested in 2008 following allegations that he had been producing pornography with an underage female. He was sentenced to five months in jail.
