Federal aid granted to counties hit by storm

President Bush extended federal aid to 14 Illinois counties hit by flooding and severe weather.

Some Illinois residents now have access to loans, grants and temporary housing. Businesses can also apply for low-interest loans.

To see if your county qualifies for aid, you can call FEMA at 800-621-3362.

Northern Missouri received nearly eight inches of rain on Wednesday, June 25th, adding water to four rivers that feed into the Mississippi.

In Winfield, authorities are struggling to keep a two-and-a-half-mile levee from giving way. President Bush has declared a major disaster area in 22 Missouri counties.

The Mississippi River is receding in some places but rising in others.

North of St. Louis, emergency crews and volunteers are working around the clock to reinforce the Pin Oak levee. Federal engineers are making no guarantees that the levee won't be breached.

Near the Iowa state line, the river is down after cresting.
