Wal-Mart Inc. is slashing its prices on turkeys and flat-panel televisions. U.S. stores are selling 12-pound turkeys for under $5. That equates to about 40 cents per pound and is a third of the average price from last Thanksgiving.
Turkey is the only holiday meal item being brought down in price. Wal-Mart is reducing the cost of canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, stuffing, a five pound bag of red potatoes, dinner rolls and a pumpkin roll cake. The company is touting a Thanksgiving dinner for 8 will cost less than $20.
Wal-Mart is also cutting prices on HP notebook computers and Sharp flat-panel TV's measuring 42-inches and 46-inches.
